After a 1-year internship with Ross Drulis Cuysenberry in Sonoma, CA, Fred worked for 6 years with award-winning ecological design-builders Leger Wanaselja Architecture, performing as both project designer and lead builder. He has been licensed to practice architecture in California since 2001, and started Hyer Architecture in 2002. In 2009 he became a California licensed general contractor.
“I love to build and I love to play music. I was a touring percussionist in a rock band and a working carpenter before becoming an architect. As a musician I learned to listen, and as a carpenter I learned how to put things together. Working as an architect and sculptor, I have found a way to combine both of these passions.”

Patricia earned her M. Arch. from the University of California, Berkeley in 2000, and has been working since then for Bay Area architectural firms focusing on sustainable residential design. She has been an integral part of the Hyer Architecture team since early 2007, performing as project lead and designer.
“A passion for color, texture, form and pattern drew me into the field of design. I began my design career in apparel, and was soon drawn toward buildings and landscapes. Recognizing the power of buildings to influence experience, I enjoy working with clients to create environments attuned to the way they live.”
