Born in New Jersey, Frederick L. Hyer III grew up in Chicago and Rochester, NY. After receiving a B.S. from Hobart College in 1983 he moved to San Francisco and following his heart, worked as a percussionist in several bands, and as a carpenter. Returning to his education in 1993, he earned a certificate in Energy Management and Design from Sonoma State, followed in 1997 by an M.Arch. from the University of California, Berkeley. After stints with two large firms he settled in at Leger Wanaselja Architecture where he worked as a project architect and lead builder. He has been licensed to practice architecture in California since 2001, and started HyerArchitecture in 2002.
A passion for color, texture, form and pattern drew Patricia into the field of design – first clothing, then architecture. She earned her M. Arch. from
the University of California at Berkeley in 2000, and has been working since
then for Bay Area architectural firms focusing on sustainable residential
design. Recognizing the power of buildings to influence experience, she
enjoys working with clients to create environments attuned to the way they
live. Patricia has been part of the HyerArchitecture team since early 2007.
